As new awareness evolves out of our experiences in the practice of couple’s therapy, and as research into what is going on within relationships continues to inform us, and as new developments in brain science provides us with more and more understanding of the neurological and biological underpinnings of what is happening within us when we interact, we become more and more convinced of the need for change in the way we help couples deal with the everyday struggles that are an inevitable part of committed relationship.

In our practice where we work almost exclusively with couples, we are gravitating toward urging couples to participate more in the kind of approaches and offerings that bring couples together in groups.  We already offer the two day workshop developed by Dr. Harville Hendrix entitled Getting The Love You Want several times per year.

We are further considering other ways to bring couples together in support and follow-up groups.  We are doing all of this because we are finding that when couples work in groups they get more effective and long-lasting results than they tend to get in one-on-one sessions once per week.  At the present time, this group oriented approach is like assembling a plane in mid air.  We are simply sharing it here to inform you of some of our current thinking and direction.

We are very sensitive to the concern that couples have about being in a situation where they are sharing their own personal issues with other couples.  We will continue to be open to discussing this further and explaining in more detail our reasons for believing in this approach.
